What you will be able to do

Build confidence around observable, testable work.

OUTCOME 01

Explain system behavior

Connect voltage, current, resistance, polarity, relays, contacts, PoE, and network behavior to what you observe.

OUTCOME 02

Install with intention

Choose pathways, protect cable, control bend and pull forces, terminate consistently, label clearly, and maintain serviceability.

OUTCOME 03

Measure before changing

Use the right meter or tester, establish expected values, compare actual results, isolate the cause, repair, and retest.

OUTCOME 04

Commission complete systems

Verify devices, network communication, power budgets, recording, door logic, supervision, documentation, and handoff.

OUTCOME 05

Read and document the job

Use plans, risers, schedules, submittals, closeout records, test results, and punch lists to keep the work understandable.

OUTCOME 06

Know when to stop

Recognize when licensing, codes, manufacturer requirements, the AHJ, or a qualified specialist controls the next step.

The learning loop

Understand. Watch. Practice. Test. Apply.

Every module uses the same five-part rhythm so knowledge becomes a usable process.

01

Understand

Learn the principle and the expected behavior.

02

Watch

See the tool, termination, reading, configuration, or diagnostic sequence.

03

Practice

Complete a guided field exercise or documentation task.

04

Test

Use a quiz or scenario to check the decision—not just vocabulary.

05

Apply

Carry the process into a larger system or final project.

Complete curriculum

15 modules that connect the entire job.

Begin with safety and electrical behavior. Finish by commissioning, documenting, and presenting a complete project.

The final project

Commission a system from drawing to handoff.

The final project pulls the course together: interpret the requirements, plan pathways and devices, document terminations, calculate power and network needs, create a test plan, troubleshoot injected faults, and assemble the closeout package.

✓ Scope and device schedule
✓ Pathway and cable plan
✓ Power and PoE budget
✓ Addressing and network notes
✓ Termination and labeling schedule
✓ Commissioning checklist
✓ Fault-isolation worksheet
✓ Customer handoff package

Questions before you join

Know exactly what you are buying.

Who is Foundations for?

Complete beginners, new installers, technicians moving into a new specialty, and small contractors who need a consistent onboarding path.

What tools or equipment will I need?

You can begin the theory with no equipment. Practice becomes more useful with basic hand tools, a multimeter, cable samples, termination tools, and an entry-level cable tester. Each exercise will identify what is required.

How long will the course take?

The planned video instruction is more than 15 hours, divided into 125 focused lessons. Assignments and the final project add practice time, and you can move at your own pace.

Is the certificate a license or industry certification?

No. It is a course-completion certificate. It does not replace licensing, manufacturer certification, code requirements, supervised experience, or an AHJ decision.

When does paid enrollment open?

Paid enrollment will open after checkout, private video delivery, and the first complete module are ready. Creating a student account now puts you on the founding-class update list. No charge is collected today.
